Fiat and Mazda Partnership Could Blossom and Even Include SkyActiv Technologies

It’s been about four months since Fiat and Mazda announced that they would share the next generation’s MX-5/Miata platform. Each company would develop its own version of the rear-wheel drive roadster, using its own powertrains and distinctive design.

After the announcement, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said that he is open to discussions for a much deeper collaboration with the Hiroshima-based manufacturer, as his company “will continue to look at bilateral arrangements”.

Only a few days later, Fiat Chairman John Elkann said the Italian carmaker has no plans to buy a stake in Mazda during a shareholders meeting.

Alfa Romeo Orazio Satta Study Proposes a BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe and Mercedes CLS Challenger

If you think about it, one of the few marques in Europe that has the dynamics, the name and history to truly compete against the dominant premium carmakers from Germany such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, in all categories and on a global scale, is Alfa Romeo. Which is probably why the VW Group has showed such an interest in the firm.

Too bad the Fiat Group never really allocated the sources or the time to rebuild and refocus the famed Italian brand as a real premium automaker.

In fact, last we heard, Sergio Marchionne has kicked the can down the road (again…) postponing Alfa Romeo's re-entry to the U.S. market and delaying many of its planned models like the 159 replacement.

But we're dragging away from our main story that is a design study from an old acquaintance of CarScoop, Italian designer Marco Procaccini, who sent us these renderings and a video of his newest project.

Alfa Romeo’s Return to the U.S. Postponed Again as Marrchione Changes Original Schedule

For the umpteenth time, Alfa Romeo’s planned reentry in the US market has been put on the table. In October, Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne will reveal a new schedule for Alfa’s upcoming models and the brands overseas expansion, which means yet another delay.

Last year, Marchionne revealed the company's new business plan and said that Alfa would return to the States in late 2012 with a small number of its 4C mid-engined coupe. The full-on assault in the US market would begin in mid-2013 with the launch of a compact crossover and at the end of the year, the new Giulia executive saloon.

eBay Find: Alfa Romeo 156 Sedan up for Sale in California

As one of the most successful (and dare we say, most beautiful) Alfa Romeo sedans of modern times, the 156 is anything but rare – just as long as you live in Europe because in the States, you have more chances of seeing a Ferrari Enzo on the road than Alfa's compact executive model.

That said, we were surprised to find an Alfa Romeo 156 listed for sale on eBay in Sacramento, California.

Introduced at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show as a replacement for the ill-received 155, the 156 sported a distinctive styling with hidden rear door handles, a dramatic front grille and sweeping profile lines, courtesy of designer Walter de Silva and the Alfa Centro Stile.

Upcoming 2014 Alfa Romeo 159/Giulia Looking to Rival German Competition

Given Alfa Romeo's prior history, you should always take whatever you hear about the Italian automaker's future plans with a grain of salt.

This time, its UK magazine Autocar that has come up with a mix of new information and previously known details about Alfa's 159 replacement, which is currently referred to with its internal but not final name, Giulia.

New GS Hybrid "Heartbeat" Promo vs Older Alfa Campaign Shows Why Lexus Has it All Wrong

As a concept, placing potential buyers on the passenger seat and having a professional driver take them for a very quick spin around a course to see if they manage to keep their heart rate below 120 beats per minute to prove that that the Lexus GS450h is a dynamic and sporty hybrid model, sounds pretty interesting.

But then again, if you think about it, with the right driver and course, even a four-cylinder Toyota Yaris can satisfy a thrill seeker in the passenger seat.

And so while we started out writing about the new Lexus GS 450h promo from advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi in Milan, Italy, launched earlier this month, we were reminded of an older campaign from Drori Shlomi BBDO, for the market introduction of the Alfa Romeo MiTo in Israel in 2010.

Alfa Romeo, the famous Italian brand that should have been among the Fiat group's first priorities but which has been heavily neglected and steered towards the wrong direction over the years, had a strong presence at last weekend's 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Among other impressive production models on show was a yellow-colored example of the built-to-order by Zagato, Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale that is based on the running gear of the V10-powered Dodge Viper ACR.

Alfa Romeo UK Extends Warranty on MiTo and Giulietta to Five Years…but Only Until September

Alfa Romeo is trying to boost sales of its MiTo supermini and Giulietta compact hatchbacks in Britain by extending its current three-year warranty by a further two years, but as you would expect, there are a few catches.

First and foremost, the five-year warranty is a temporary promotional move that will be available to customers who buy a new car from now until 30 September 2012 - then it's back again to the three-year warranty for anyone purchasing one of the two models.
